FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- What pencils / pens / paints / brushes / software / techniques do you use?
I use a wide variety of markmaking means which I’ve built up knowledge of and experimented with over a long period of time. I don’t have a preference for any particular brand nor am I sponsored to promote any. That said, for ink illustrations and sequential art, I tend to use Daler-Rowney paper, artboard and gold taklon brushes, uni-ball PIN fineliners and Winsor & Newton drawing inks. Buy what you can afford and relentlessly explore all capabilities, including your own. - Can you draw me a picture of my husband / wife / cat /dog / budgie / monster truck...?
Absolutely! No matter how big or small the request, I consider all queries. It makes no difference if you’re the head of a major marketing department or working as a waitress in a cocktail bar; I aim to provide each and every customer with the same high standard of service I pride myself on delivering.
Subject to a service-level agreement (SLA), you can commission my services for a variety of things. There are some exceptions, however, such as tattoo design and anything deemed to advocate hatred, hostility, or violence towards members of a race, ethnicity, nation, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation or any other designated sector of society. If in doubt, ask!
I charge for my services and calculate cost based on the details of such requests and in accordance with the latest information from the Association of Illustrators (AOI), of which I am a member. - How long before I receive the artwork?
This depends on what you want me to create, the time it will take to complete, where you are in the world and my workload at the time of enquiry. I operate a scheduling system with set deadlines and will advise on turnaround before issuing a SLA. Please note I am rarely short of work so the sooner you commission me, the better! Asking me to produce a drawing intended as a gift three weeks before Christmas, for example, will result in a disappointing response! - Will you commit to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)?
Yes. With more than thirty years’ experience as a multi-disciplined, reliable artist, I am proud of the reputation I have built up during this time and am not in the business of revealing or ripping off ideas. I am happy to read through any NDA sent to me or arrange for a legal representative to do so on my behalf. - Do you sell original artwork?
With the exception of personal portraits, I tend not to part with originals. - Do you sell prints?
Yes. Prints of selected works are available to buy. An online store is something I plan to introduce in the near future but for now please enquire via the Contact form below. - Are you available for talks or lectures?
Yes. With a B.A. (Hons) in Visual Communication specialising in Illustration and a wealth of experience as a multi-disciplined artist working for a variety of well-known companies, I am especially interested in providing advice, support and encouragement to aspiring artists in the West Midlands, England, and surrounding counties.
Ever keen to share my knowledge and experience, I have previously attended social gatherings, art groups, colleges and universities. Particularly interested in critical thinking, experimental processes, semiotics and sequential art, I have a standard DBS certificate and my own public liability insurance.
